PPL and PRS for Music customer transition
You may have been notified about PPL PRS Ltd, a joint venture between the UK's two music licensing organisations – PPL and PRS for Music. They have joined forces to make it easier for you to obtain a music licence for the playing or performance of music in public.
PPL PRS are here to promote and protect the value of music – to ensure that those who write, perform, compose, record or publish it are fairly rewarded for their work. With the introduction of our joint music licence, TheMusicLicence, we are determined to do this in a more efficient way and deliver the best music licensing experience there is.

New customers
Previously, businesses and organisations had to obtain separate music licences from PPL and PRS for Music. However, they have now come together to form PPL PRS Ltd and launch TheMusicLicence.
If you are a new customer obtaining a music licence for the first time, you can complete our online form and a member of our team will call you and guide you through your licence application.
Existing customers
We will be in touch to transition you to TheMusicLicence when your existing PPL and/or PRS for Music licence expires. There’s nothing for you to do in the meantime. However, if you would like to read more information on licence renewals please refer to our FAQs.
Where to pay going forward
Going forward, you will be asked to pay your licence via the PPL PRS online payment portal, by contacting a member of our customer service team or through a bank-to-bank transfer.
If you have an existing direct debit mandate set up with either PPL, PRS for Music or both, you will be contacted about this separately to discuss the transfer of your Direct Debit(s). There’s nothing for you to do in the meantime.
