Top Tips to Stay Motivated for Never Give Up Day 2024

August 18th marks Never Give Up Day. Whether it’s personal struggles, professional hurdles, or societal issues, this day encourages everyone to share their stories of determination and support each other in their journeys. This day is all about resilience, perseverance and staying motivated. Professional motorcycle racer, Brayden Elliott is a great example of this, never giving up allowed him to successfully work his way up to compete in the Bennetts British Superbike Championships in 2024.

This date also coincides with French swimmer Philippe Croizon’s incredible feat, completing a swim connecting five of seven continents in 2012. Philippe Croizon lost all of his limbs in a severe electrocution accident in 1994. Despite this tragedy, Croizon continued to do amazing things, inspiring others with disabilities to beat the odds.

Staying motivated can be very difficult, and it can be tempting to give up on something when it doesn’t come easy to us straight away, but here are some tips on how to stay motivated:

Track your progress:

Tracking your progress is a great way to stay motivated. It is such an effective tool to see how far you have come to achieving your goals. Whether it be a to-do list that you check off as you go, or drawing a progress bar and filling it in, following how far you have come and being able to see as you get closer to your goal is very important. For Brayden, as his journey is followed by thousands of fans, his growth is available for all to see, so he is able to track his progress and see just how far he has come.

Listen to motivational music:

2019 study found that when you have to knuckle down and get things done, music activates your brain’s ‘reward centre’, which makes you more motivated and able to take in information to get in the zone. Brayden has spoken to us about how music motivates him during his training. “I think it’s probably overlooked how much athletes and in general life people can use music to benefit them physically, mentally, or competitively,” Brayden says. “It’s a great tool for anyone and it’s been key for me. I use it to motivate myself in training, and to visualise my goals ahead of the race season.”

Create a vision board:

This technique may not be for everyone, but keeping your goals in sight and visualising what you’re striving for can really help. Try printing off pictures of your idols, or write down some key words that relate to your goals. Setting the time aside to really focus solely on what you want can be helpful to keep you on track.

Do something fun:

As vital as it is to stay focused, without breaks or downtime it can be really easy to burn out. It is important to take breaks and to focus on doing something fun and this will look different for everyone. Whether it be a honing in on a hobby, a meal out with family or seeing some live music with friends, anything that lets you unwind can do wonders for your productivity in the long run. Before choosing racing as his career, Brayden had another passion – playing the drums.  “If I wasn’t at the racetrack, I was playing the drums in a band with my schoolmates, or teaching drum lessons… I was at a bit of a crossroads on whether to keep playing the drums and pursue a career in music, or to put my head down and go racing – I couldn’t do both. In the end I chose to race and set my sights on Britain and the world stage.”

Staying motivated can be a challenging task, but it is essential for achieving personal and professional goals. Never Give Up Day stands to serve as a powerful reminder that setbacks and obstacles are a natural part of life, but with commitment and a positive mindset, people can overcome even the most daunting difficulties. In 2024, Never Give Up Day will continue to inspire people from all walks of life to push through adversity and keep striving towards their goals.
