The Oliver Bonas story began with their founder, Oliver Tress – who used his creative upbring, passion for design and experience of sourcing gifts and items from his travels abroad to open his first store in London in 1993.
Thirty years on, Oliver Bonas is now one of the UK’s leading independent British lifestyle stores, specialising in women’s fashion, homeware and gifts.
With around 30 stores across the London area alone, as well as numerous sites across the UK’s major cities including Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Belfast, Oliver Bonas use music across their stores to help create the unique and inspirational space the brand has become known for.

How important is music to the Oliver Bonas brand?
“We believe at Oliver Bonas that we do things better when we do them ourselves and with our music, it’s no exception. We hand pick every single track that goes on to our playlist that gets played out into our stores. How important is music to your staff?

How important is it to the Oliver Bonas brand that you play licensed music by original artists?
“It’s really really important to Oliver Bonas that we have the right licences in place because the licence fee goes back to the music creators so they can then produce great music that our stores can listen to. We have a few team members that are artists themselves and it’s a real pleasure to be able to put them on so that the whole of Oliver Bonas can enjoy listening to them and it’s a real boost for the team.” Donna Gutteridge, Culture & Service Lead
Everybody in here has their one favourite song that, when that one song comes on, we’re like today is our day. It just kind of completely shifts my energy and I’m just completely lifted and ready to go and excited to be out here and I think the customers feel that.”
