PPL PRS supports LOROS’ ‘Stomp Round Leicester’ art trail with elephant sculpture designed by Kasabian frontman, Serge Pizzorno

Leicester businesses, including music licensing organisation, PPL PRS, have come together to support LOROS’ upcoming Stomp Round Leicester art trail taking place this summer.

The trail, which launched on Monday, 14th July and runs until Sunday, 21st September, is made up of 40 large elephant sculptures which have been placed around the city to mark 40 years of LOROS’ fundamental end-of-life hospice care.

The five-foot-tall elephants have been sponsored by local businesses and each one has been designed by new and established artists.

This includes Daft-apeth, aka Serge Pizzorno, lead singer of Leicester rock band Kasabian, who designed the PPL PRS sponsored elephant, which can be found in the city’s Humberstone Gate, along with a QR code linking to a specially curated ultimate mood playlist that has been put together by PPL PRS to accompany the trail.

PPL PRS, who issue TheMusicLicence to businesses that use music for their customers and staff, created the playlist with input from the people who have been supported by LOROS, along with members of the teams from PPL PRS.

The playlist includes music which reflects different emotions, including both positivity and sadness, in recognition of LOROS’ work, and the complex emotions that both patients and their families experience when receiving end-of-life care.

This is as well as celebratory, happy, and nostalgic music for people to enjoy as they explore the vibrancy of the trail and the diversity of artwork that is on display, which also includes smaller ‘Baby Elephants’ that have been created by local schools, which can also be found around the city.

LOROS’ hope is that the elephant sculptures will be both a fun, family-friendly trail of discovery for the community to enjoy while exploring the city, as well as a way to support important, thought-provoking conversations.

PPL PRS is proud to support the Stomp Round Leicester campaign, and to be able to create a playlist to accompany the trail to support people experiencing these range of emotions through both art and music.

The trail, which is free to attend and focuses on elephants mainly as a representation of wisdom, diversity, and the ‘elephant in the room’ that can be present during terminal illness diagnosis and treatment.

Leicester-based actor Stephen Graham and his wife have also got involved, decorating an elephant each, along with comedian Greg Davies.

The Stomp Round Leicester campaign  is to raise vital awareness and much needed funds for LOROS’ integral work and hospices. Once the exhibition is over, the large elephant sculptures will be auctioned off on Wednesday, 8th October, to raise money for the LOROS Hospice to help local terminally ill people and their families at the most difficult times of their lives.

To mark the beginning of the trail, members of PPL PRS visited their elephant, including Operations Director, Lee Osborne.  He said:

“LOROS and the work they do is very close to home to the teams at PPL PRS, and we are really proud to support their Stomp Round Leicester campaign , and in particular the Serge Pizzorno designed elephant in Humberstone Gate.

“It was wonderful to see the elephants in-situ in the city today, and seeing so many people taking an interest in why they are there, and taking part in the trail. We hope the campaign is a huge success for the charity and raises the much needed, vital funds.”

Bethany Grundy, Head of Marketing and PR at PPL PRS also said:

“It was really important for us, at PPL PRS, to get involved with LOROS and the Stomp Round Leicester trail.  We want to give back to the local community, and get involved with the cultural events that are happening within Leicester, and some of us have a really personal connection with LOROS as well.

As the music licensing organisation that is based in the city centre, having our elephant designed by Kasabian front man Serge was the perfect connection between music and art. We want people to get out and about in the city this summer, and taking part in the trail is the perfect way to see the city, get some steps in, and learn about the amazing work the teams at LOROS do at the same time.”
