The Chelsea Flower Show

Spring is truly in full swing and that only means one thing… The Chelsea Flower Show is back! Regarded as one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated events in the gardening world, the show is held annually in London and showcases the latest and greatest in gardening designs, trends, and products.

The event attracts a diverse audience from professional horticulturists to avid gardeners and enthusiasts. The Chelsea Flower Show offers an excellent opportunity to explore new ideas and is a great occasion for you to take inspiration from for your business.

The show will be held from the 23rd May to the 27th May, with this year’s theme “The Restorative Power of Gardens and Gardening,” featuring a variety of gardens and exhibitions that showcase the many benefits gardening can have on our health and well-being and the external environment around us.

In line with this year’s health and well-being theme, which features remarkable show gardens like The Samaritans’ Listening Garden and Centre for Mental Health’s The Balance Garden, we want to show you some of the benefits playing music could have on your garden centre or horticultural business. Playing music can contribute to the overall well-being of your employees and serve as a wonderful addition to enhancing the shopping experience for your customers.

How to enhance the gardening experience

This year’s Chelsea Flower Show highlights the growing trend of consumers aspiring to create their own personal sanctuaries, seeking to establish healing and relaxation spaces within their gardens. With 75%1 of British adults having access to a private garden and a further 87%1 believing gardens and green spaces benefit their state of mind, how can we enhance their gardening experience with music?

Music is a versatile tool for self-care and relaxation. Taking the time to listen to calming music, meditative sounds, or nature-inspired compositions can help people unwind, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of well-being. So, it makes sense to introduce it into your business to create a more pleasant and enjoyable experience for both your customers and employees.

From our recent survey, we discovered that 87%2 of people think playing background music creates a positive working environment along with 93%2 agreeing that music can create a calming working environment, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety.

By combining music with the natural environment of your garden centre or horticultural business, work can be transformed into a therapeutic activity for your staff. Playing soothing or uplifting melodies could create a calming atmosphere and provide an extra layer of entertainment and stimulation while performing tasks like planting, weeding, or pruning.

Introducing rhythm to your blooms

Each year, more than two-thirds1 of British adults make a trip to a garden centre. With such a significant number of visitors, it’s crucial to ensure that your customer’s experience within your business is a positive and enjoyable one. That’s why 82%3 of garden centre shoppers enjoy music being played whilst visiting a centre, with 51%3 of them stating that it boosted their mood.

Garden centre, florist and horticultural business have long been a place of relaxation, where people can unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With this in mind, it’s worth being selective with what music you should play in your business.

Music has the power to evoke emotions and influence our mood. Upbeat and lively music can boost energy levels and increase the atmosphere. Whereas slow and calming music can help reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and a sense of tranquillity.
