- What is TheMusicLicence?
TheMusicLicence allows you to legally play and perform music in your business, whether through the radio, TV, other digital devices and/or live performances.

It will cover you, with one licence and one invoice, for the use of virtually all commercially released music available – millions of songs and recordings, including the most popular and well-loved music not just from the UK, but also from around the world.
- Who is PPL and PRS for Music?
PPL and PRS for Music are both collective management organisations. They issue licences and collect royalties for certain uses of copyright-protected music, on behalf of their many hundreds of thousands of members. They then distribute those royalties to members.
PPL represents record companies and performers for the use of recorded music, while PRS for Music represents songwriters, composers and music publishers for the use of musical compositions and lyrics (for both recorded music and live performances).
PPL and PRS for Music set up PPL PRS Ltd to offer a single joint music licence, on behalf of them both, for playing and performing music in public (see ‘What does playing music ‘in public’ mean?’).
- What are the Terms and Conditions of TheMusicLicence?
You can view TheMusicLicence Terms and Conditions online.

Create an atmosphere
Playing high-energy music in your sporting venue can help to build excitement and anticipation before and during a match or game.
Rock anthems, dance music and popular songs can create atmosphere at your event, encourage fan participation, boost player’s morale, and unify and engage fans with their favour team or sports person.
Build your team identity
No matter whether it’s football or rugby, hockey or cricket, many sports teams often have their own chants or theme songs that are unique to their fanbase. It is these chants and theme songs that can be used to rally support and create a sense of belonging amongst fans. Familiar tracks can strike a chord and evoke pride and passion, increasing the community spirit.
Music can also reflect the regional and cultural identity of the team and its fanbase. Local bands, regional hits, or traditional songs can be used to honour the area’s heritage and connect with local supporters. Not only does this enhance the sense of place but also celebrates the uniqueness of the community the fanbase belongs to.
Highlight Key Moments
Music can be used to highlight significant moments in the sporting event, such as when a player or players are making their entrance onto the pitch, when a goal or try is scored, when points are won, when races are finished or when a player or players are making their entrance on to the pitch.
In addition to key moments on or around the pitch, music also has the ability to enhance other areas within a stadium. Upbeat and familiar tracks can make waiting in line more enjoyable for fans when they are queuing for food, drinks or merchandise, music helps to build atmosphere, engaging fans in the experience.
Enhance the experience
It’s not just within the sporting action where music brings positive benefits. Music contributes to the overall experience for fans all over the venue, in the stands, in boxes and in hospitality areas.
Pre-game or halftime shows often feature live performances, DJs, or marching bands and can set the tone for fan experiences and hospitality events. With access to 1000s of different songs and repertoire via TheMusicLicence, music can be used to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, catch the mood of an event and create a truly immersive experience for fans.
